Name: Tao Jade
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Personality: Jade is everything a well rounded woman should be: Calm, obedient, respectful, and mindful of her family’s honour in all things she does. She is contemplative and self sufficient, driven most often by a strong sense of compassion. She radiates the inner peace of one who knows and accepts their place within the universe, yet there is a fierce determination and intensity within her that rises to the surface when she is careless. At such moments, it is always her eyes that betray her.
Appearance: Jade is of a short stature, standing 5’3” with a slight build. Her long black hair is most often pulled back away from her face, an enamelled comb shaped like an orchid resting just above her right ear. Her eyes are a simple brown.
When traveling, she prefers to wear loose robes, sandals, and a large straw hat which allows her to keep her face hidden. For more formal occasions, Jade will adopt the kimono and makeup of a courtesan, the kimono made from fine blue silk, and the obi coloured silver. Woven into the fabric is a delicate pattern of cherry blossoms. At such times, she carries with her a fan and an umbrella, both blue and ornamented with the imperial dragon crest.
History: Jade was born the only daughter of Tao Fai, a respected and decorated warrior in the Land of Dragons, and the younger of two children. Her older brother, Ming Yue, was the family’s pride and joy. When he came of age, he enlisted in the Imperial Army and dedicated himself to the service of the emperor in same way his father did. Jade remained at home until she could have a suitable marriage arranged for her. Jade was sad to see her brother go, and missed him terribly, but was proud to see him poised to bring such honour to the family. When he would return home, they two would spend long hours together in the garden, Ming Yue happily teaching his eager sister many of the techniques he was learning. Life could not have been more perfect for the Tao family, but it was not to last.
The message, when received was garbled and confused. Ming Yue had been killed in a skirmish, but the kingdom had been at peace for many years, more so since the disappearance of the Heartless and Nobodies. The attackers vanished as quickly as they had appeared, and the Tao family was left to mourn the loss of Ming Yue. Tao Fai took it particularly hard, and his health quickly began to fail as his grief deepened.
As Jade sat one day in the garden on a stone bench beneath a blooming cherry tree, a favourite spot of Ming Yue’s when he had been alive, something was thrown over the garden wall. When Jade searched, she found an anonymous scroll containing details about the identity and location of her brother’s killer. It provided an address and a contact name, should it be decided that the family would pursue the matter further. Fearing for her father’s health, Jade herself undertook the journey and now pursues her brother’s killer throughout the worlds.
Weapon(s): Jade does not carry weapons as such, but her fan is remarkably heavy for being so small, and the pole of her umbrella is simply hollowed out bamboo, the ends left open.
Pet/Guardian Creature: Jade travels with a caged cricket named Cheep.
Likes: Tea, good books, music, festivals, fireworks, the soft patter of rain on a roof through the night.
Dislikes: Moogles, traveling, magic (although she'll take advantage of it when it's available; she views it as unnatural and as a disruptive force to the natural harmony in which one must strive to live their life), frivolity, not having tea, and being outside in the rain.
Strengths: Jade is intensely dedicated, and when she takes on a cause, she commits herself completely: body, mind, and spirit until it can be achieved. She learns quickly, and is a keen observer. She is honest, if not entirely forthright, and believes in keeping secrets.
Weaknesses: Jade is terribly naive and inexperienced in the ways of the worlds outside of her home. She is cynical, stubborn and suspicious. She is often too hesitant to offer information, and will often withhold it, whether it is vital or not to a given situation unless pressed unceasingly.
